The biggest new video games releasing the week of 3/13/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

2023 has gotten off to an excellent start for video games, with hits like the Dead Space remake and Wild Hearts releasing alongside indie gems like Season: A Letter to the Future. This week looks to continue that trend with some wonderful video games releasing.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR (3/16)

Supermassive Games brings their Dark Pictures series to VR with Switchback. Like Until Dawn: Rush of BloodSwitchback is a rail shooter set on a horror-themed roller coaster. Players will shoot at fiendish foes like vampires, a serial killer, and demonic witches. It promises haptic feedback to make you feel like you’re really on a coaster, adaptive triggers to make each weapon unique, and eye tracking that enables the game to reposition enemies when you blink. Spooky!

The Wreck (3/14)

The Wreck is a 3D visual novel promising a complex emotional narrative about motherhood, survival, and grief. You take control of Junon, whose life has stalled out, who gets a call that her mother is in critical condition in the hospital. You’ll then re-experience Junon’s past, live through the present day, and attempt to shape the future as Junon relitigates her relationship with her mother. The gameplay may be light, but the feels are heavy in The Wreck.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Demon

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Demon turns back the clock on the titular hero’s story and explores the beginning of Cereza’s journey. Both Cereza and Cheshire are playable characters at the same time — each using one side of the controller — and together they’ll overcome enemies and solve puzzles in the forbidden Avalon Forest. The art style is wonderful, and the game as a whole trades the stylish and sexy look of the main games for something more wholesome and adorable. Curious players can try out a demo for Bayonetta Origins. All progress from the demo will carry over to the full game.
