Welcome to Friday, and another edition of Fantastic Five! Our celebration of the best comics of the week presents five books from four publishers, including three #1s. Let’s get right to the books!
#5: Silk #1
Silk #1 is an excellent example of outside-the-box storytelling paired with superhero antics working very well. Pick this up for the big mystery, but stay for the compelling setup as Silk travels across iconic eras in American history.

#4: Captain Marvel #49
Sergio Dávila’s pencils bring this story to life and when the scene needs to be epic, it looks epic. When it needs to be heartwarming and sentimental, it does just that as well. Every inch of this story is brought to a new level by the artwork and together, Thompson and Dávila deliver a story that’s significant, awesome, and heartwarming.

#3: Something Epic #1
On the one hand, Something Epic feels like a grand, beautifully drawn, dreamy exploration into a world full of imagination. On the other hand, it is a tremendously sad look at the loneliness and isolation one can feel when they’re misunderstood. It is both a grand epic and a quiet personal story of a young boy struggling alone. Something Epic is a comic written for all those who have looked to their imagination to escape the world around them.

#2: The Great British Bump-Off #2
For long-time fans, it’s a small delight to check back in with a cherished friend; for new readers, it’s a quick, tumbling descent into a world filled with innumerable, pleasant joys. There isn’t a single moment of The Great British Bump-Off that isn’t delightful, regardless of how far down that hole you’ve journeyed.

The universe feels simplified, as Hal gets back to being everything that anyone could possibly want from him — save for Carol.
