As one excellent year for video games ends, another begins. 2024 promises indie darlings and Triple A hits week after week, and those games start launching now.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
Foamstars (2/6)
Platforms: PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
Square Enix’s Splatoon-like multiplayer shooter finds itself releasing as a PlayStation Plus exclusive this week. Foamstars will remain one of February’s monthly games until March 4 when it’ll be made available to purchase. It’s an interesting release plan, and one that could become more popular as gaming subscriptions, like Xbox Game Pass, continue to dominate the gaming world. As for Foamstars as a game, it’ll launch with three PvP game modes and feature third-person shooter gameplay with foam as the ammo of choice.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition (2/6)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
As you gear up for next month’s Rise of the Ronin, check out another of Team Ninja’s soulslikes in all its complete glory. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition launches almost a year after the game originally released and will package together the base game and all its DLC, notably the story expansions Battle of Zhongyuan, Conqueror of Jiangdong, and Upheaval in Jingxiang. It’ll also include cosmetic DLC from its crossovers with other games like Lies of P and Naraka: Bladepoint.
Helldivers II (2/8)
Platforms: PC and PlayStation 5
Get ready to squash some alien bugs with your buds in Helldivers II. Arrowhead’s co-op sequel to 2015’s Helldivers takes a left turn away from being a top-down shooter, like the original, and into third-person shooter territory. You’ll travel from planet to planet in an effort to reclaim them from the enemy and bring them back into the Super Earth coalition. The combat will be “fast, frantic, and ferocious” as friendly fire is always on, its variety of special weapons will blow enemies back, and calling upon Strategems will blast your enemies from orbit.
