#5: DC K.O. #1

‘DC K.O.’ #1 is 2025’s Earth-2: World’s End and Convergence event

DC K.O. is off to a decent start in terms of setting up its main event, even if half of issue #1 is mostly an exposition dump with much of the action happening in the second half. But as mentioned, DC K.O. will need to be unpredictable in its storytelling and genuinely surprise people to avoid being “just another crisis event” that destroys reality for the billionth time, but nothing of consequence truly happens. If anything, the most surprising status quo change DC K.O. could end with would be having the Absolute Universe take over as the new primary DC continuity, with Prime Earth getting demoted to being a creator-driven universe, and end its continuity renewal crisis that way.

#4: Marian Heretic #1

‘Marian Heretic’ #1 explores the things we do in the name of faith

Marian Heretic #1 isn’t just a bloody, badass horror comic. It also offers meditations on faith, and how it can be weaponized against others or take different forms. Tini Howard and Joe Jaro have a hell of a concept here, if you’ll pardon the pun. Fans of Howard’s work on Excalibur and Catwoman, or action horror staples like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Underworld need to add this to their pull lists.

#3: Supergirl #6

‘Supergirl’ #6’s nightmare fuel is perfect for Halloween

All in all, it was very good planning on Campbell’s part to follow up her first Supergirlstoryline with a Halloween-themed interlude for the month of October. Not only did this create the perfect opportunity to revisit Kara’s past traumas in a really fun way, but the realization that her friends will always be there for her will make the upcoming holiday issues for Thanksgiving and Christmas resonate more strongly.

#2: Amazing X-Men #1

‘Amazing X-Men’ #1 is an essential chapter in Marvel’s new X-Men era

Amazing X-Men #1 is a gripping continuation of Age of Revelation, balancing character-driven tension with blockbuster spectacle. With Asrar’s dazzling art and MacKay’s ability to keep readers hooked through twists and relentless stakes, this is an essential chapter in Marvel’s boldest X-Men era yet. The story keeps readers guessing by having characters hold back key truths, adding to the suspense even if it occasionally feels like a narrative trick.

#1: Transformers #25

‘Transformers’ #25 review

Transformers #25 is a fantastic new start of a hopefully fantastic new era. Kirkman brings the same professional energy to it that he does with Void Rivals, not shying away from getting down and dirty and getting the ball rolling like nothing even changed. An admirable approach, one I wish more comics would follow through with these days. Mora feels so at home here, having a fantastic rendition of the robots in disguise, and probably bringing the best human-centric art in the whole franchise to the table (it’s his specialty, not a shock there). With how high profile this creative team is, I’m deathly curious how this will reflect sales. Well, here’s to the next 25! Good job boys, see you next month!
