X-Men Monday #329 – 2026 Valentine’s Day Special

Plus, three eXclusive — and romantic — panels from upcoming X-Men comics!

Welcome, X-Fans, to another uncanny edition of X-Men Monday at AIPT!

Krakoa was for lovers — but so is this installment of X-Men Monday! That’s right, X-Fans, it’s our annual Valentine’s Day Special, where your favorite X-Office creators talk about what you really care about: X-romance! (And here you thought I was going to say “What’s next for Jean Grey?”)

OK, enough of my tomfoolery. Let’s get into the X-Office’s tomfoolery!

AIPT: Welcome to the 2026 X-Men Monday Valentine’s Day Special, everybody! In your opinion, what makes romance in the world of the X-Men different from romance in other fiction/superhero stories?

Jed MacKay: I think there’s a messy closeness in the mutant culture — they’re always piled on top of one another like people in a small town or the residents of a single dorm or apartment building, and that breeds drama like nothing else. Everyone knows each other, everyone’s got some kind of history with one another, and everyone’s got no end of baggage that they drag around with them — they’re not just superheroes, they’re mutants!

Tim Seeley: I think Chris Claremont really engineered this precedent where the fight for survival raised the stakes of the relationships in X-Men… so, there’s an implied desperation and connection amongst them. Plus, they’re all hot in their own ways.

Gail Simone: I think the level of horniness is escalated considerably. Whether it’s because of a complex paradigm of shared experience and identity or just because mutants are way hotter than Avengers, I don’t know.

Ashley Allen: The X-Men is like a high school on steroids — friend groups dating amongst each other, a lot of shared history, and, of course, messy, messy emotions. Throw in superpowers on top of it, and it makes for a great romance story!

Luciano Vecchio: X-Men are a community where everyone knows each other, ensuring hot tension, drama, and a rotating dating pool with infinite baggage.

Murewa Ayodele: First of all, you get a sense that orgies are a frequent occurrence. You just can’t prove it. Secondly, X-Men romance is incredibly messy. Consider Cyclops’ history with Emma Frost, Jean Grey, and Madelyne Pryor. Or Colossus getting left at the altar while Gambit and Rogue decide not to let the catering go to waste by getting married at the reception. It’s all so messy and DELICIOUS.

Erica Schultz: I don’t think it’s different at all, and that’s why relationships within the X-world feel so real to readers. Mutants deal with emotions and connections and falling in and out of love just like flatscans. Several X-Men have had relationships with non-mutants (and non-humans, too). I guess what I’m trying to say is that we have more in common than not.

AIPT: Now, in your opinion, who is Marvel’s most eligible single mutant?

Gail: It’s Nightcrawler, and anyone who disagrees is a dirty, dirty Sentinel.

Luciano: Nightcrawler. The Charm, the fur, the tail. Just dreamy.

Ashley: Dani Moonstar — maybe you’ll just have to wait and see until March 4th.

Erica: Pass! I’m not setting myself up for the backlash on this one!

Tim: Boom Boom!

Murewa: I tried as much as possible to give another answer, but I’ll have to say that it’s Storm. She’s drop-dead gorgeous, caring, super confident, and has an extremely fun personality. She’ll be there to tell the waiter they got your order wrong. 🤣 😂 She’ll take you around the world with her powers or her money. She’s a great listener. She’s just the total package.

Jed: To the tune of “Sharp-Dressed Man”: ‘Cause every girl crazy ’bout a Glob Herman.

AIPT: Which X-Couple — from any era — would be the most fun to go on a double date with?

Ashley: I think Scott and Emma in the prime of their relationship would have been a blast (no pun intended) to go on a double date with.

Luciano: Destiny and Mystique, to hear them throw shade on everyone else. It would be a bit terrifying, too.

Tim: Kitty and Colossus — they’re funny people, while everyone else is kinda serious.

Jed: I love the period of time when Lorna and Alex were desperately trying to not have anything to do with the superhuman life and were pretending to just be normal folks, so I can only imagine the sitcom hijinx that would come from a double date in that era.

Gail: I know the expectation is that I will say Rogue and Gambit, but the truth is, it’s Hotoru and a cinnamon pretzel.

Erica: Anna Marie and Remy are my favorite X-couple of all time, so I’ll go with them. Remy will have some great restaurant in mind, and Anna Marie isn’t afraid to do a little gossiping.

Mark Basso: Rogue and Gambit — nothing embarrassing or stupid you could do or say could attract more attention than them, so you’d have that cover.

AIPT: Now, which X-Couple (from any era) has the best rom-com potential?

Mark: Rogue and Gambit — those same reasons…

Gail: That’s Rogue and Gambit. They are firepit hot, adore each other, and both can break a tank in half if they get cross. They win.

Tim: Kitty and Colossus — same answer [as above]!

Luciano: Dazzler and Longshot, and it’s a dimension-hopping musical.

Jed: Psylocke and Greycrow — two emotionally unavailable murderers… in love!

Erica: Warren and Laura. He literally patted her on the head in All-New Wolverine (David López and Tom Taylor), and she didn’t murder him right then and there!

Ashley: Isn’t the entire X-canon just a romcom between Xavier and Magneto?

AIPT: You’re all pretty close to the X-Men… who has the cringiest dating profile?

Gail: Cyclops, you all know it’s Cyclops.

Tim: Wolverine. Lots of pics of him with tiger cubs.

Erica: Glob Herman. He knows why.

Ashley: Cringy in an endearing way? Definitely Nightcrawler. Cringy in a bad way? Definitely Mojo (a big ick).

Murewa: It has to be a tie between Kid Omega and Maggott.

Jed: Quentin Quire, number one with a bullet.

Luciano: Kitty Pryde’s taste in men was terrible. Good thing she’s finally dating girls now.

AIPT: Let’s say Mojo wants to capitalize on the X-Men’s infamous soap opera dynamics in a new reality series and comes to you for help. What’s your pitch and who’s starring in it?

Erica: I want to say that you can’t do a Mojo show without Longshot, but I’m going to rethink that.

Kitty and Piotr have had such a back-and-forth that it would be interesting to see what happens there. Kitty really has a thing for dating guys named Peter across the multiverse.

Murewa: eX-Island — a reality show where you have to stay on an island for as long as possible with all your exes. Starring, for sheer number dynamics, Wolverine and Deadpool… and for pure drama, Storm and Cyclops.

Gail: Baking show, naked Nightcrawler, like any decent person.

Mark: Xs and Os at the X-Mansion — stick lovers and love triangles in the Xavier mansion and watch the sparks fly! Wolverine, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Madelyne Pryor, Gambit, Storm, Rogue… Bella Donna…

Tim: The Days of Our Clones. Madelyne Pryor, Jean Grey, and Cyclops with adult son, Cable, popping in.

Jed: “An unexpected x-gene activation has the X-Men in a tizzy as a new face enters the Mansion — that’s right, Paul has made the jump from the Spider-Office to the X-books and things will never be the same!”

AIPT: Wait… can we actually do that last one? OK, finally, X-Fans always want to know what new romances await their favorite X-characters. If you have any romantic plot lines coming up, tease away!

Luciano: In Iceman: Omega, collecting the Infinity Comic written and drawn by me, I explore the messy love life of Bobby Drake,  including reunions with his exes Christian Frost and Romeo.

Ashley: I think everyone has a bit of a crush on Dani Moonstar… and there’s definitely someone in our series that does ;)

Mark: Logan and Silver Sable have been hitting it off in Wolverine… but there’s a triangle forming in Inglorious X-Force you need to read about!

Tim: Inglorious X-Force will be full of… well… not romance… but lots of making out for sure.

Murewa: I’m still trying to get that Marvel/DC crossover gig so I can put Maggott with Arm-Fall-Off-Boy.

Erica: In Laura Kinney: Wolverine with Giada Belviso, we were setting up a possible relationship between Laura and Dracula’s son, Xarus, but we were cut short on that.

I’m currently working on Rogue with Luigi Zagaria, and she is locked with Remy, so don’t even think about splitting them up!

Gail: I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, but I’m not revealing anything. Oh, all right. Jubilee gets her plasmoids waxed, that’s ALL I’M SAYING.
