Oni Press announces Joe Palmer’s dystopian thriller ‘Destination Kill’ #1

Joe Palmer goes full creator control in ‘Destination Kill’ a 2125-set dystopian thriller about corporate control, worker revolt, and a city ready to explode.

Oni Press has revealed Destination Kill #1, a four-issue dystopian action thriller written, illustrated, and hand-lettered by British cartoonist Joe Palmer (Time Before Time). The 40-page debut arrives May 13, 2026, with a $5.99 cover price and a lineup of high-profile variant covers.

Set in the year 2125, Destination Kill unfolds in a London reshaped by the all-powerful corporation Overcon. The company’s robotic workforce handles everything from serving drinks to dispensing medication, while Central City is rebuilt into a gleaming corporate stronghold. As Overcon celebrates the one-year anniversary of its Paradise Loop, a transatlantic train capable of reaching New York in under 60 minutes, tensions erupt.

Displaced human workers, pushed aside by automation, flood the streets armed and ready to strike during the gala celebration. Caught in the middle are Gina Serene, an overworked detective struggling to stay afloat, and her ex-partner Lance Wingman, now a private investigator. Together, they stand between a corporate empire and a city on the brink of violent upheaval.

“DESTINATION KILL started life as an image in my mind of a lone, masked builder armed with a pistol, standing on the snow-covered rooftop of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London,” said Palmer. “That image really stuck with me, and over time, it evolved into this fantastical story of a transatlantic train and a citywide builder-led revolution that I knew I had to make someday. This book is me taking the (long overdue!) step of being in total creative control of my work, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I wasn’t consciously thinking about it at the time, but at least part of the reason for doing this was to put something out in the world that represents me and my personality, and I feel like I’ve done that.”

Senior Editor Bess Pallares called the series a much-needed addition to the genre. “DESTINATION KILL is the type of story we’ve been missing for decades—an action thriller equal parts entertaining in its satire and horrifying in its prescience. Joe’s characters, worldbuilding, and craft as a cartoonist sing brilliantly from the page in the perfect execution of style and substance. If you’re wondering how to manage stress in an insane world, you’ve come to the right place.”

The extra-sized first issue features cardstock covers by Palmer, Riley Rossmo (The Moon is Following Us), Ronald Wimberly (Prince of Cats), Tango (Power Rangers), and Liana Kangas (Know Your Station), along with multiple incentive variants.
