‘TMNT’ #300 tops 200,000 orders as IDW prepares biggest Turtle story in years

The landmark issue launches a major new era, features historic covers from Frank Miller and J. Scott Campbell, and celebrates more than four decades of Turtle history.

The Heroes in a Half Shell are celebrating a major milestone this summer, and fans and retailers have responded in a big way.

IDW Publishing has announced that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #300 has surpassed 200,000 orders ahead of its July 22 release, making it one of the biggest TMNT comic launches in recent memory.

The oversized issue serves as both a celebration of the franchise’s history and the beginning of a major new storyline. It launches “The City That Never Dies,” a sweeping new saga from Eisner Award-winning writer Gene Luen Yang that promises to challenge the Turtles in ways they’ve never faced before.

According to IDW, the milestone issue was designed from the ground up to feel worthy of the occasion, bringing together an impressive lineup of creators and several historic firsts for the franchise.

Among the highlights are the first-ever Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles covers by Frank Miller and J. Scott Campbell. The issue will also feature a previously unseen cover from TMNT co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The artwork was originally penciled by Laird and only recently inked by Eastman, making it a unique collaboration between the creators more than four decades after the franchise debuted.

The celebration extends beyond the main story. A backup feature by Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz follows the fan-favorite timestress Renet on a journey through TMNT history. The story picks up after the acclaimed Battle Nexus multiverse storyline and includes artwork from a roster of beloved Turtle creators, including Ben Bates, Eric Talbot, Chris Allan, Frank Fosco, Jim Lawson, and Dan Duncan.

IDW also highlighted its blind bag program as a major part of the release. The publisher emphasized that the initiative was designed with collectors and readers in mind, including open-order covers that become full-art variants when obtained through the blind bag assortment.

The issue’s story itself aims to be just as ambitious as the anniversary surrounding it.

The timing couldn’t be better. TMNT #300 arrives during San Diego Comic-Con week, positioning the issue as one of the biggest comic book releases of the summer.

With over 200,000 orders already locked in, historic covers from legendary creators, and the launch of Gene Luen Yang’s next major TMNT epic, the milestone issue is shaping up to be a landmark moment for the franchise.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #300 goes on sale July 22, 2026.
