Final Fantasy VII remake launching March 2020

Expect to see a lot more of the remake in the coming days at E3 but here’s a release date.

The Final Fantasy VII remake, or at least the first part of it as there’s no official word on if Square Enix is still planning on shipping it in parts as originally announced, is slated for March 3, 2020 according to a new trailer. The trailer, released alongside a concert dedicated to the game series, showcases a number of new scenes from the early portions of the game (as previous trailers have) including a segment not in the original, where Cloud and Aeris appear to be surrounded by malevolent spirits in the street.

First announced at E3 in 2015, it seems like the remake has been a long time coming. It has also no doubt undergone a number of iterations and changes in direction similar to the also troubled Final Fantasy XV which preceded it. Now, though? It feels closer than ever. Fans can probably expect to see a lot more of it at Square Enix’s E3 press conference set to air Monday night at 6 pm P.T. / 9 pm E.T.
