Here is what we want to see most at SXSW!

South by Southwest is going completely online this year. This does not mean it is lacking in great movies. The film portion of the SXSW festival has been home to some great moments. We have already looked at the shorts and documentaries we are interested in. Movie Editor Nathaniel Muir and contributors Juli Cabot and Regina Chavez Muir will be covering SXSW. Here are the films they want to see most.

SXSW has an entire section devoted to horror and genre films. Its Midnighters section includes this horror movie from the United Kingdom. A wealthy family invites neighbors over to their beautiful home in the Welsh country for dinner. A mysterious waitress changes what should be a simple business deal to something far worse.

[SXSW '21] The features we want to see most at SXSW

Yes, the idea of telling of telling William Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet entirely through social media, texts, and Spotify playlists screams style over substance. And yes, I am from the era the gave the world the world the Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes adaptation, so I already feel like I have seen the best modern retelling of the Bard’s words ever. Still, I am curious to see this digital version of Rome and Juliet. (It is not Romeo Pounds Juliet as the stylization may imply.)

Nick Gillespie directs a film about a talent show turned deadly. One sparkly attired contestant uses his lunch break to execute a deadly vengeance plot. Five murders in one lunch break is a lot for one person to pull off. Can Paul Dood succeed?
