Lars Mikkelsen officially announced as Thrawn for ‘Ahsoka’ series

Never believe an actor’s denials when reliable scoopers are all saying the same thing.

While we were all salivating over the incredible teaser trailer for Ahsoka this weekend, the show’s panel at Star Wars Celebration revealed another bit of exciting news: Lars Mikkelsen will be playing the live-action version of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The actor previously did an outstanding job voicing the character on Star Wars Rebels, which led to him instantly becoming the fan favorite for the character’s entry to the Filoni live-action Star Wars projects. Until today, Mikkelsen repeatedly denied that he’d been cast in the role. But if Andrew Garfield’s denials about his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home taught us anything, it’s that actors will flat-out lie about their involvement in a project if the contract requires them to keep it secret.

At this point in time, there haven’t been any official photos or videos released of Mikkelsen as Thrawn. A photo may have managed to leak online, but we absolutely would not provide a link to it in this article. The image comes from an extended version of the teaser trailer that was shown at Celebration (that includes lots of additional/awesome footage), but we won’t post leaks of that, either.

In other news, there have only been snippets and soundbites released from this weekend’s Ahsoka panel, but the ever-reliable /r/StarWarsLeaks did manage to post a photo revealing the director list for the series:

  • Dave Filoni
  • Rick Famuyiwa
  • Jennifer Getzinger (Daredevil, Jessica Jones)
  • Steph Green (Billions, The Book of Boba Fett)
  • Geeta Patel (House of the Dragon, Meet the Patels)
  • Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Mandalorian)

Ahsoka will premiere this August exclusively on Disney+.
