Announced during Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Predator vs. Punisher is the latest crossover to pit the iconic alien hunter against one of Marvel’s deadliest antiheroes.
Launching in November, the four-issue series is written by Frank Tieri (Alien vs. Captain America) with artwork by Jesús Saíz (Eddie Brock: Carnage).
The story drops the Predator into the heart of New York City, where its search for worthy prey leads directly to Frank Castle. As mob bosses begin turning up dead and gang warfare erupts across the city, the Punisher finds himself hunting a killer unlike any he’s faced before. The series also brings in a lineup of classic Marvel crime figures, including Kingpin, Jigsaw, Silvermane, The Owl, and more.
“This is the series that’ll answer the age-old question of who is pop culture’s greatest killing machine,” Tieri said. “Now, fans know I’ve written the Punisher before, in everything from Punisher Noir to the legendary Space: Punisher, but this is the first time I’m actually tackling the Predator. And as a teen who was front row glued to his seat in the theaters as Arnold yelled ‘Get to the Choppa!’ pitting these two against each other is especially a thrill for me.”
Tieri teased that the Predator’s arrival is about more than simply hunting organized crime.
“Our story sees the Predator instigating a mob war between some of Marvel’s biggest gangland characters, but the thing is, we’ll quickly realize the mob might not be his only target… but rather a certain vigilante with a skull on his chest, as well,” Tieri explained. “Fans can expect a $%^& ton of blood and violence, but also a lot of twists and turns, including an unexpected shared past between our two combatants. ‘If it bleeds we can kill it.’ The only question will be… who is it that ends up getting killed?”
Editor Mark Paniccia believes the creative team is perfectly suited for the crossover.
“Seeing two iconic killers test each other in ways neither expects is a guilty joy,” Paniccia said. “Frank Tieri and Jesús Saíz are the perfect choice to deliver a showdown this ruthless, visceral, and unforgettable. They’ve created an instant classic.”
Marvel also revealed promotional artwork by Dustin Weaver, along with a variant cover by Alex Maleev and a homage variant by Leinil Francis Yu inspired by Frank Castle’s first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #129.
Predator vs. Punisher #1 arrives in comic shops this November. Fans can preorder the series now through their local comic shop.
