George Lucas pays surprise visit to Star Wars: The Mandalorian set to celebrate Jon Favreau’s birthday

The father of the franchise paid Favreau and the crew a special surprise visit.

Jon Favreau received a birthday surprise that millions of Star Wars fans are sure to be jealous of. Star Wars creator George Lucas paid a surprise visit to Favreau on his birthday at the set up Disney’s upcoming live-action series, The Mandalorian.

Favreau shared a picture of him and Lucas together on his Instagram account for fans to enjoy.

The post was made on Friday October 19, the day of Favreau’s 52nd birthday, and shows the pair hanging out in what appears to be a cantina from the set of The Mandalorian. In front of the two Star Wars directors on the table is a bottle of Skywalker wine, undoubtedly a gift from Lucas to Favreau.

Wine is one of George Lucas’ many passions. He owns Skywalker Vineyards, which began in 1991 when he planted 4 acres of vineyard on Skywalker Ranch. It has since expanded to 28 acres.

Another photograph shared by Favreau showed the pair alongside Star Wars: Resistance and Star Wars: Rebels creator Dave Filoni.

In addition to wearing the cap of executive producer, Filoni has also been tapped to direct the first and fifth episodes of The Mandalorian, thus it’s likely he was on set for one of the two.

The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the rise of the First Order. The story follows a lone gunfighter on the outer rim of the galaxy, far from the New Republic and is suspected to be deep within the world of bounty hunters, crime syndicates and the other underbelly types within the Star Wars universe.

The series is set to arrive exclusively on Disney’s new streaming service sometime in 2019.
