Auction Alert: Purchase original Todd Nauck art and help comic creators in need

Todd Nauck’s popular “Soul Sword Storm” artwork, produced for X-Men Monday, is now up for auction, with proceeds benefiting the Hero Initiative.

Passionate fans and talented creators: two key ingredients that make X-Men Monday at AIPT eXtra special. When it came time to plan the celebration around X-Men Monday #100 (which goes live Monday, March 29), you better believe we were going to find some way to give back to them both. So far, three lucky readers have each won a batch of six X-Men comic digital codes (with two more chances to win by liking and retweeting X-Men Monday #100 on Twitter). Now, we’re eXcited to announce a chance to purchase a piece of X-Men Monday history and help comic creators in need in the process!

In May 2020, AIPT gave X-Fans a chance to vote on a character, a Marvel Universe location and an iconic MU prop. The winners: Storm, Krakoa and the Soul Sword. Then, fan-favorite artist Todd Nauck took these ingredients and whipped up an astonishing piece of original art, which debuted in X-Men Monday #59 (also featuring an interview with Todd). Here’s the piece:

Fear not, no AIPT watermark on the real thing!

Pretty cool, huh? Well, the good news is you can now bid on it on eBay, with all proceeds going toward the Hero Initiative!

Click here to access the auction on eBay.

If you’re unfamiliar with the good the Hero Initiative does for the comics community, here’s a bit more information from the organization’s website:

“The Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for comic creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. Since inception, the Hero Initiative has been fortunate enough to benefit creators with more than $1 million worth of much-needed aid, fueled by your contributions! It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.”

The auction, which is now live, will run for a full week–so plan accordingly. Here’s a note from Todd about the artwork and auction:

“This piece was a fun challenge to create and draw based on the criteria from the fan polls. It allowed me to tap into some fun design elements based on Storm’s history to create her Soul Sword and Eldritch Armor. I am glad to offer this piece in auction to benefit the Hero Initiative and the work they do to help comic creators in need. My thanks to everyone for their support!”

Best of luck to all who bid, and for a behind-the-scenes look at how this one-of-a-kind artwork came to be, check out these process videos courtesy of Todd himself!
