Nick Spencer’s Amazing Spider-Man run will conclude with issue #74 in September, Marvel announced today. Issue #74 of the run will also be issue #875 in legacy numbering.
“The last three years of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN have been Nick Spencer’s love letter to his favorite character and comic,” Editor Nick Lowe said. “He may be the biggest Spidey fan ever as evidenced from the fact that he read every Spider-Man comic in preparation for his landmark run.”
Spencer’s Amazing Spider-Man began in 2018, hot off the heels of his controversial run on Captain America, which saw Cap utter the words “Hail Hydra” in a move many thought was too far. Spencer’s Amazing Spider-Man run garnered far less controversy, but middling reviews.
Recently, Nick Spencer was joined the nascent newsletter website Substack, as one of its first major hires in an effort to expand into fiction writing and attract big-name writers from the genre. Spencer will reportedly be creating comics for Substack, which is a first for the platform.
Let the speculation begin for who will be taking over Amazing Spider-Man this fall. Who do you want to see take Peter Parker into the future?
Amazing Spider-Man #74 hits shelves September 22nd, and features cover art by Patrick Gleason. Check out the cover, as well as Marvel’s full press release, below:
