Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez’s first Batman arc ends December 2022

DC Comics has revealed Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez’s current Batman run is ending its first story arc, Failsafe, in December. The “Failsafe” story arc started with Batman #125, which was Zdarsky’s first issue in the series. Along with the news, DC Comics has revealed all the covers for the last two issues in the story arc for Batman #129 and Batman #130.

So what is the back half of the story arc about? As DC Comics puts it, these final two issues will prove whether The Dark Knight can beat an enemy he’s created himself, one that has an answer for any possible attack!

Batman #129, on sale Tuesday, November 1

In the penultimate issue, Failsafe countered every move Batman—and the Justice League—have attempted. Is the Dark Knight out of options on…Earth?

The backup story, by Zdarsky and artist Leonardo Romero, takes Batman back to his early years, revisiting his most psychedelic and mind breaking period, and the dawn of his first backup system of protection, Zur-En-Arrh!

This issue features cover art from the most dynamic artists in comics! In addition to the main cover by Jorge Jiménez, issue #129 features main variant covers by Gabriele Dell’Otto and Francesco Mattina, plus a 1 in 25 ratio variant cover by Simone Di Meo, and a 1 in 50 ratio foil variant by JOCK.

Batman #130, on sale Tuesday, December 6

Chip and Jorge’s last chapter in the FAILSAFE arc reaches its brutal and stunning conclusion! Batman has one desperate, final option…will he walk away from it? The answer will shock you!  The backup story, with art by Leonardo Romero continues the early days of Batman and his relationship with Zur-En-Arrh.

This must-have conclusion features also features a main cover by series artist Jorge Jiménez, with main variant covers by Gabriele Dell’Otto and Harleen artist Stjepan Sejic, with a 1 in 25 ratio variant cover by David Marquez (Batman: Killing Time), a 1 in 50 ratio foil variant by JOCK, plus a special holiday-themed variant by Future State: The Next Batman artist Laura Braga.
