Whether it is checking the latest news, posting to social media, texting, or making the occasional phone call, smartphones have pretty much become a necessity in the modern world. While Apple and Android now dominate the landscape, there was a time when a different phone was in demand. How popular was it? It had become so addictive that some referred to it as “Crackberry”.
Blackberry is a film about the meteoric rise and spectacular fall of the world’s first smartphone. The cast includes Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up), Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), and Cary Elwes (Operation Fortune: Ruse de Gurre). Director Matt Johnson (Operation Avalanche) also stars in the film. The movie is an adaptation of the best selling, Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry.
Powered by Elastica’s early 1990’s hit ‘Connection’, the trailer is fast paced and fun. Each scene is filled with tension as the team tries to put together their amazing device. There is also a lot of humor, with Howerton looking particularly sleazy. Blackberry has been met with very positive reviews during its festival run as it prepares for its spring release.
Blackberry releases in theaters May 12
