In the past eight years, technology of drawing tablets have advanced significantly. That is why Wacom decided to redesign their flagship Intuos Pro Pen Tablet to help better cater to the needs of today’s digital artists and photo and video editors. It was part of the new cool tech we saw last month at CES.
One aspect consistently stressed is the high level of customization. As Wacom would put it, “Work the way you work.” Part of that begins with the Pro Pen 3, which is not unique to the Intuos Pro, but can be used on many of Wacom’s other products. The various accessories allow it to be tailor-made for the form factor of each user. There are small weights and different grips that can be attached for a more ergonomically comfortable experience, particularly in the wrist. In addition, the buttons can be configured exactly how you like them to be.
The tablet itself received a few changes. The dial and buttons moved from the side of the device to the top. This prevents accidentally hitting a button or changing the dial causing extra marks or unwanted actions while working. Though the small size has only one set, the medium and large size has two banks of dials and ExpressKeys to accommodate drawing with either hand.
The dial has a tactile sensation that clicks, which comes in handy when video editing and you need the precise control of the number of frames moved. Once again, the dials and ExpressKeys demonstrate the Intuos Pro Pen’s degree of customization. They can be set for any software with any shortcut, and the device can easily transition from program to program keeping the unique shortcuts to each.

The second highly focused aspect is the large level of accuracy. The new chips set not only provides a longer battery life of 16 hours, but it allows the pen and tablet to communicate faster resulting in a more exact cursor location. The provided rubber nib for the Pro Pen 3 is slip resistant supplying more precision.
Finally, the new Intuos Pro is more compact then its predecessor. It is between 4mm-6mm thick, and can easily be taken on the go to client meetings, the office, or wherever you find inspiration. Despite the smaller size, there is still the same drawing area that matches the 16:9 ratio of most current displays. The magnesium alloy body provides protection and sturdiness.
Every purchase comes with the pen tablet, the Pro Pen 3, and several free software trials including Clip Studio Paint, MASV, and Capture One. Access to Wacom’s Yuify is also provided. The program adds a micro mark layered onto the entire piece that remains through screenshotting and downloading to manage authorship to the artwork.
The Wacom Intuos Pro is a powerful tool. A lot of thought went into the redesign to update it to the needs of the current artists providing a higher level of customization and accuracy.
The Wacom Intuos Pro is currently available.
