Creed III is one of the biggest releases scheduled for 2023. The film is the continuing journey of Adonis Creed as a new challenge enters his life. The Creed movies have been critical and commercial hits, grossing over $375 million worldwide. What started as a continuation of the Rocky franchise has forged its own identity. Jordan spoke with reporters about being a first-time director, legacy, and the importance of a strong cast.
There are plenty of reasons to be excited for the latest installment, one of which is it marks the first time Jordan will be in the director seat. Naturally, the question becomes, why would he want to take on such a difficult gig to start with? “I think, for me, it was the perfect time,” Jordan said. “I think growing up on set, in the industry over 20 years, I finally got to this place in my career where I wanted to tell a story and not just be in front of the camera, not just execute somebody else’s vision.”
Legacy has always been a big part of Creed and will continue with the new film. According to Jordan, family, homecoming, and accountability will also be importance themes in Creed III. Unlike other sports dramas, the movies have always put a premium on developing well rounded characters. Based on the trailer, that looks like it will continue with the upcoming installment.
Which is not to say the boxing has become an afterthought. The trailer is littered with touches of exciting action scenes and, of course, training montages. With a cast that includes Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, along with boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez, Creed III promises to be one of the most enjoyable movies of the next year.
