The biggest new video games releasing the week of 11/7/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Game releases have been ramping up lately with publishers looking to get their games in stores before holiday shopping really begins. That trend continues this week as some of the remaining most anticipated games of the year drop. Let’s take a look at what’s coming out.

Sonic Frontiers (11/8)

2022 is the year of Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 grossed over $400 million early this year, leading Paramount to greenlight a third movie to release Christmas 2024. The Sonic Origins collection released back in June, letting nostalgic fans dive into their favorite Sonic games of their childhood. And tomorrow the newest Sonic game releases — Sonic Frontiers. It’ll be the first open-world Sonic game, but it’ll retain the platforming elements the series is known for, like rings and rails. It was originally supposed to come out last year to celebrate the character’s 30-year anniversary, but was delayed to ensure it’s quality — a positive sign for fans.

Sifu (11/8)

Kung fu roguelike Sifu released earlier this year to a positive reception and comes to the Nintendo Switch tomorrow, allowing you to take your quest for vengeance on the go. Sifu is an intricate action game where you’ll string together kung fu moves to take down opponents. Your character will grow wiser as the game goes, learning new techniques, but they’ll also grow older upon respawning after each death until they die for good, forcing you to start over. Since its initial release, Sifu has received new content in the form of additional difficulty options and cosmetics for the protagonist.

God of War Ragnarök (11/8)

It’s finally here. The sequel to one of the greatest games of all time comes to both PlayStation 4 and 5 tomorrow. God of War Ragnarök follows Kratos and Atreus three years after the events of the first game as the pair search both for means to prevent Ragnarök as well as the truth beneath Atreus’s identity as Loki. Their journey will have them face off against a revenge-seeking Thor in a clash that will reverberate throughout all the realms. Reviews were made public last week meaning Ragnarök is quickly racking up perfect scores. Watch out, Elden Ring — a new challenger for 2022’s game of the year has arrived.
