Dragon Con 2020 is officially canceled

Dragon Con joins the growing the list of comic conventions canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, organizers of Atlanta’s Dragon Con announced on their official website that the 2020 convention has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The convention was not scheduled to take place until September 3-7, but there are still too many unknowns and potential safety concerns to move forward with an event that typically draws around 80,000 attendees. For folks who’d already paid/registered, organizers are offering the option of rolling their registration over to next year’s convention or receiving a full refund. Also, like SDCC, Dragon Con plans to host a virtual event in place of the in person one.

The entire press release is reprinted below along a succinct reaction from the event’s official Twitter page.

After many months of hand-wringing, sleepless nights, and more Zoom meetings than we can count, we have decided that Dragon Con 2020 event will not be held in person. Trust us, we are just as bummed as you are, but know we did not make this decision lightly. Above all else, we want to thank you, our fans, our partners, the ACVB, and the city of Atlanta for the support you have given us over these past few months.

If you would like to retain your membership for our next convention, you don’t need to take any action. This rollover will happen automatically by August 15th, with no fees for repurchases. If you do choose to roll over your registration to the next Dragon Con, we have something special for you: your official 2020 membership badge and an exclusive Dragon Con item that will not be released in any other form or fashion, as a memento of sincerest thanks for sticking with us through this. These will be mailed to you in the fall.

We have updated this page to give you the answers to questions you may have regarding your former Dragon Con plans, and maybe questions you didn’t even know you had.
