AIPT Comics Podcast Episode 82: Talking shop with Eisner winning store Comicazi

LCS manager Jill Carter joins the Comics podcast to talk about how her shop has endured during the pandemic and so much more.

This week, special guest Comicazi comic book shop manager Jill Carter joins us to talk shop. Comicazi won the Eisner Award for best retailer in 2017 and has been weathering the pandemic with innovative ideas and an active and loyal local community. We touch on how the shop has shifted and pivoted over the last few months to deliver product to their customers, Carter comments on DC Comics leaving Diamond Comics Distributors, and we get a ton of recommendations from Carter on comics she’s been reading lately.

Before we talk to Carter we break down the news. At the top of our news, Tom King calls out Jae Lee, then clears the air, Dynamite cuts ties with CG related campaign, but is it enough?

Marvel releases their solicitations and early looks for October 2020 releases, DC solicitations are also out, new comics are announced like Com2uS, Skybound/Image Comics’ team up for ‘Summoners War: Legacy,’  Marvel hypes Knull/Empyre prelude, and also hypes X of Swords in Cable and Excalibur.

In industry news, Marvel launches Marvel’s Storyboards on YouTube and IDW President, COO, and Publisher steps down and IDW names replacements.

Then, we cover the biggest news during SDCC’s Comic-Con@Home starting off with Donny Cates announcing Crossover at Image Comics, Oscar Isaac teams up with comic creators to create a graphic novel with Legendary Comics, the Eisner winners were announced, Al Ewing talks about She-Hulk, Tini Howard says X of Swords is weird, Marvel’s 616 actually looks good, and DC Comics announces “Endless Winter” is coming December 2020.
