With autumn officially here, the summer of gaming has unfortunately come to a close. While we wait for fall’s most promising releases, like Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and God of War Ragnarök, let’s check out what’s releasing this week.
FIFA 23 (9/30)
The most popular sports video game franchise is back with a new entry in FIFA 23. New features include HyperMotion2 Technology gameplay improvements on the next-gen versions, women’s clubs for the first time in the series, and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 (to be added as free DLC). A fun and first-of-its-kind addition is the inclusion of Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond to the game, where the team will be playable across a variety of modes.
Moonscars combines brutal hack-and-slash gameplay with nonlinear platforming. It’s dark and desolate world makes it seem like a 2D Dark Souls almost, and just like a Souls game it’ll reward players who can master their craft and overcome the game’s challenges. Moonscars promises a “strange, dark fantasy tale” packed with betrayal, twists, revenge, and exploration.
After being an Xbox and PC exclusive for six months, indie darling Tunic goes multiplat this week. The little fox can now go on its big adventure on both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles. Tunic doesn’t shy away from its influences, proudly resembling age-old The Legend of Zelda games in both its tunic-wearing protagonist and its simple sword and shield based gameplay. It’s challenging but rewarding at the same time, and, most of all, tons of fun to play.
